Alexander Cleghorn is based in Tiptree, Essex and was established in 1958. We offer a dedicated DIY and Shelving service supplying a range of Melamine and Veneered panels. Furniture components are manufactured on our state of the art machinery which occupies several well-constructed factories on our sixteen acre site. We are currently looking to recruit a Stock and Inventory Control Manager to join our Stores Department.

Job Description

As our Stock and Inventory Control Manager, you will be responsible for the complete creation, development and maintenance of the new Stores Department within the business. In addition to this the candidate will take full of ownership all regular tasks related to stock management and future development of this department.

You will be expected to:

  • Create the Stores Department.
  • Develop all process and procedures for successful and efficient stock department.
  • Review current stock and inventory management software and develop usage.
  • Participate and lead continuous improvement programs and operational development for the Stores Department (Implementation of Software base stock control system)
  • Review and report on resource requirements against anticipated scheduling/future business plans/new products e.g. whilst factoring in process and efficiency improvements
  • Responsible for stock reconciliations
  • Daily control of stock inventory, Goods In/Out and stock management software to ensure stock integrity is accurate at all times.
  • Maintain internal quality standards at all times and participate fully in internal quality audits.
  • To ensure goods in and goods out products complies with product specification.
  • Ensuring relevant orders are prioritised to ensure the customer receive the products on time and in full.
  • Support the returns function ensuring all returns are processed and stock control maintained.
  • Accountability for meeting and exceeding targets and goals.
  • Oversee the day to day management of the timely, provision and delivery of products within budgeted and planned cost, quality and time parameters to the relevant departments.
  • Maintain a high standard of stock control and stock reports, including monitoring of storage space and setting aside area’s for new stock.
  • Ensure that work area is kept clean and tidy.
  • Work within health and safety at work act of 1974 at all times and in all working areas.
  • Ad-hoc tasks may be requested from time to time that is not listed above, but will be required.
  • Additional hours may be required during busy periods.
  • Perform any reasonable management instruction within time frame requested.

Working hours will be Monday to Friday, 07:30 am to 17:00 pm, and flexibility with working hours is essential as overtime will be required from time to time.

The Candidate
To be considered for our Stock and Inventory Control Manager role, you will have the following skills and experience:


  • Degree in Business Administration, Finance or relevant field.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Solid knowledge of data analysis, inventory management software, and forecasting techniques.


  • The ability to implement and define new processes and procedures which are proven in current role.
  • Demonstrable and successful implementation of software for stores or warehouse departments.
  • Previous experience in stock and inventory management
  • Implementation of Stock Management software and IT system knowledge is essential.
